That's one of those things from school that will never leave me, like LM's Salad Sandwiches thing.

Man are hanged but some are well hung (Iggy Pop, Yul Bryner etc etc)

elbow are the kings of sad music..... you could choose any from great expectations, new born or fugitive motel....

However the saddest song for me is poetic tragedy by the used.....

Nine Inch Nails - Hurt.

That almost brings me to tears .. Trent Reznor is an absolute genius at what he does .. but it's almost too much in this song.

Pearl Jam - Black

I know someday you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star
In somebody else's sky, but why
Why, why can't it be, why can't it be mine

Its quite spooky that whilst reading this thread I was thinking of Hallelujah by Jeff Buckley and its just come on my mp3 player. Its even sadder and truly brings a tear to the eye at the end of Schindlers List.

A couple of others that really make me think are Stand by My by Ben E King and both We Have All the Time in the World and What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong

Now we're talking. :) What a splendid, incredible song. The way Buckley soars on that is just incredible. Better than Laughing Lenny's version, and better that John Cale's flat version, by 2 country miles.

Concurr.

I couldn't stop listening to it after I'd downloaded it last year. I know these polls always put Beatles songs at the top but I think this is more than a match for a lot of their stuff.
